Consultation

During your consultation, I will carry out a thorough examination of the ear canal to assess the presence of ear wax and determine whether removal is necessary and safe. Each assessment is completed with care, ensuring the most appropriate treatment is recommended. If you wish, I can also take clear images of the inside of your ear, allowing you to see exactly what we see and better understand your ear health.

If ear wax removal is required, the consultation is provided free of charge as part of your treatment.

Microsuction

A safe and effective method of ear wax removal that uses a gentle suction device to carefully remove wax from the ear canal. The procedure is performed under direct vision using a specialised microscope or loupe, allowing the practitioner to see inside the ear at all times. This makes microsuction a precise, controlled, and comfortable option for removing stubborn or impacted ear wax, with no need for water.

Water irrigation

A safe and effective method of ear wax removal that uses a controlled flow of warm water to gently flush wax out of the ear canal. The procedure is carried out carefully and at low pressure to ensure comfort and safety. Water irrigation is suitable for many people and can be an effective option when wax is soft or has been treated with ear drops beforehand.

Why Can Ear Wax Become a Problem?

For some people, ear wax doesn't clear naturally and instead builds up or becomes impacted. This can happen due to:

  • Narrow or curved ear canals
  • Using cotton buds or earbuds (which push wax deeper)
  • Hearing aids or earplugs
  • Age-related changes that make wax harder and drier

When wax builds up, it can cause symptoms such as:

  • Blocked or muffled hearing
  • Ear discomfort or fullness
  • Ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
  • Dizziness or balance issues

Why Is Ear Wax Removal Important?

Removing excess ear wax can:

  • Restore clear hearing
  • Relieve discomfort and pressure
  • Reduce the risk of infection
  • Improve hearing aid performance

Professional ear wax removal is especially important if symptoms persist, as improper removal at home can cause irritation or damage to the ear canal.
